So, you’re ready to propose. Congratulations! Now comes the exciting part: planning the proposal and finding a photographer to capture it. As a Dallas-based proposal photographer, I specialize in capturing heartfelt moments in iconic locations across the city. I’m here to help you plan every detail to ensure it’s memorable and uniquely special. Whether you need assistance with locations, timing, or even a bit of acting to keep the surprise, I’ve got you covered. I can even capture your celebration afterward!
Choosing the perfect proposal location is crucial. Here are are a few tips to help you pick the right spot:
1. Choose Somewhere Meaningful
One couple I worked with chose the exact spot where they had their first date. It added an extra layer of nostalgia and significance to the moment.
2. Consider the Scenery
Consider natural backdrops like parks, lakes, or even mountains, which can add a beautiful touch to your photos.
3. Think About Privacy
Decide if you want a public proposal with bystanders or a more private moment for just the two of you. Some clients prefer the intimacy of a secluded proposal while others love the energy of a bustling location.
4. Location Suggestions
Still can’t think of the perfect spot to propose? Here are a couple suggestions: White Rock Lake, Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, Rockledge Park, Flippen Park, Dallas Zoo. Is the city your vibe? Choose somewhere downtown, like the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge or a private rooftop bar!
It’s up to you. Does your future fiancé prefer simplicity, or would they love a setup with rose petals, photos, or a neon sign? There are advantages to both. Keeping it simple allows for more flexibility if things don’t go exactly as planned, but having something set up will give you a sense of calm, because you know exactly where you are supposed to get on your knee.
It’s easy to get caught up in all the little details when planning your proposal. Where will you kneel? Will the photographer be in the right place? Don’t overthink it. No proposal goes perfectly as planned. You may not be able to propose at THE spot due to rain, flooding, or hundreds of high school students taking prom photos at your original location (yes, all of these scenarios have actually happened). Just enjoy the moments leading up to it as much as you can, and propose when feel ready. I will be in communication in the days, hour, even minutes leading up to your proposal to discuss any changes that may be needed so we are both equally prepared.
What’s next? A romantic dinner? Celebrating with family and friends? A surprise party? I’d love to photograph these special moments. My proposal packages start at $400, including the planning, the proposal, and the moments after. For an additional $100/hour, I can stick around to capture your celebration, whatever form it takes.
One of my favorite proposals was at Flippen Park in Highland Park, Texas (yes, the same park I mentioned previously). My client had it all planned out to propose in a specific spot in front of the gazebo. We thought we had everything covered.
Let’s set the scene. I’m driving to the proposal, and I get a call from their friend, who is setting up flowers and champagne. She tells me Flippen Park is PACKED with people taking prom photos. Luckily, I always arrive at least 30 minutes early. When I pulled up, I saw hundreds of kids taking prom photos. I’m not exaggerating. They are in the park, around the fountain, and in the gazebo. The spot my client wanted was unusable.
So, we came up with a new plan. We found a secluded area surrounded by trees and set the flowers up on a bench. We informed my client of the change and kept the new area open until they arrived. I even enlisted some high schoolers to pretend I was taking their photos (shoutout to you guys).
My client arrived and shared the most special, private proposal with his fiancé while I photographed the whole thing. Though it wasn’t the exact spot he had originally intended, it was still perfect in its own way.
Remember, no proposal is perfect, but they are all uniquely special. The love and joy you share in that moment are what truly matter, and I will make sure it’s captured well.
